i want to remember vividly the colors i saw daily, all the forms and shapes, and asymmetrical beauty existent.

i want to remember the exhilaration of letting my voice be heard as loud as it can go.

There's so much to be thankful for, so much to be alive for.

[Translation] Ku Hye Sun’s Interview (Elle Girl)

Actress-author-artist-composer-director Ku Hye Sun sat down for an interview with Elle Girl. Translated excerpts are beyond the jump.

Elle Girl (EG): You surprised [everyone] by publishing a novel this spring; this time it’s drawings. What are you feelings about opening your first art exhibition at La Mer Gallery?
Ku Hye Sun (KHS): I’ve thought about it from awhile ago, but I didn’t know that it would be exhibited like this. After receiving the proposal from WITH (YG Entertainment’s charity campaign), I figured it would be more meaningful to do it [like this] than by myself and proceeded quickly.
EG: I’m aware that you dreamt about entering an Arts high school back in your schooling days. How did you become familiar with pictures?
KHS: I liked drawing pictures since I was young. And my friends and I would also paint murals on our neighbourhood walls. But my skills weren’t particularly outstanding, just to the level that my teacher would occasionally post a picture I drew in art class on the classroom wall. The friends I hung out with were so multi-talented that I never thought that I grew up without thinking that I was special. But now I often hear the words, ‘Why do you do so many [activities]?’
EG: You seem like the type of student who is diligent and continually trying to learn something.
KHS: Not at all. My mother always worried about my laziness. However, I’m the type that when I decide to do something, I push forward in a short amount of time. If it took me 100 days to draw pictures, I’m actually the type to play for ninety-nine days and concentrate for one day to draw. My method is to push when the feeling comes.
EG: I heard that you completed your novel Tango while filming Boys Over Flowers. Does exceptional strength flow when you push ahead with something? Your first novel was received quite positively [considering it was done under those circumstances].
KHS: Many have asked the question, “Why is Yeon Yee (Tango’s female protagonist) so popular?”
EG: I concur. She is involved with three men.
KHS: It’s not so much that Yeon Yee is popular, but that there are phases in life when lots of toxic guys approach. And if everyone looks carefully around them, there are relationships with the opposite sex that came about with various emotions. Or please just think of it as a fantasy (laughter). I feel a progressively greater sense of responsibility every time I do something. The thought that even if the first one is unskilled, the next one has to be better. At least so that people who are watching (reading) don’t feel uncomfortable.
EG: If one looks at the back cover, there are words of recommendation from CEO Yang Hyun Suk (of YG Entertainment) and Representative Jung Seung Hye (of Morning, a film production company). Who are those two people to you?
KHS: You know publishers like it if a famous person writes the words of recommendation. Although I have many famous friends, by nature I’m not good at asking for favours. It feels burdensome to receive something for free. [With this personality,] the people that I feel most comfortable asking for favours are my family and President Yang Hyun Suk. Meanwhile, Representative Jung Seung Hye is like the manager of my life. She is the one who encouraged me to write and put me in touch with a publisher. She wrote a recommendation even before I requested one.

EG: This is sad to talk about, but Jung Seung Hye passed away this past May. Your sadness must have been great considering your special relationship; has your heart recovered now?
KHS: There were articles that said I collapsed from exhaustion at the viewing, but I’ve never collapsed. Strangely, there are many false reports such as this about me. Of course I did cry a lot. But it was a situation that had been forecast to some degree, and I didn’t think it was appropriate to sob impudently in front of the person who has left us. My heart was at peace to some degree because I was able to watch over her path to the very end.
EG: I heard that she helped you film The Madonna (유 쾌한 도우미). Thanks to her, you uniquely made your [big] screen debut as a director rather than an actress.
KHS: I’m just one of countless people who dream of movies. I wrote the scenario, worked on the script, and conceived the background music on my own because it was fun, but I was lucky to get the opportunity to turn it into a movie, book, and soundtrack. To be honext, there’s not a lot that I know about the technical side of movie[-making]. I’m studying this and that, but people around me have actually told me not to learn it. That [if I do], I’ll try to do everything by myself (laughter).

EG: There were some questions raised whether the reason you were pursuing such diverse activities is because you’re not fulfilled living as an actress.
KHS: By nature, my personality isn’t satisfied with anything. Except for when I eat delicious food and say, “Ah, I’m full!” I think that no matter what I do, there’s no such thing as 100% happiness. To be honest, I’m not sure of myself. A person’s emotions are countless, change everyday, and differ depending on who you’re with. Anyhow, I do think I’m an interesting character.
EG: Film, book, picture…. I’m curious about the next project we’ll see you in.
KHS: There are plans for an album to be released. You could say that it’s a new age record; I did all of the composing and some famous musicians play the music. There’s some orchestra music, and we’re going to put in one song. (KP’s note: I believe by song she means a song with lyrics, as opposed to just instruments.) This record has been in the making for two years and the compositions were finished last year. The book and exhibition were also in the works since awhile ago, but all of the finished products were unintentionally released one after another.
EG: You composed the theme song for The Madonna. How did you come to learn composition?
Other people think that I received the benefit of private education, but our household wasn’t that well-off. However, I was heavily influenced by good teachers when I was young. The instructor at the piano academy I attended during elementary school particularly liked me, so she taught me piano at practically no cost. [She/He] let me come play the piano any time and guided me in chord, composition, and voice training.
EG: Do you receive counsel about your music from CEO Yang Hyun Suk?
KHS: Yes. I call anytime and beg, “I created a song today; please listen to it once”. But I can’t understand the music that the president makes, and [he] can’t understand the music that I make. He says, “I don’t know because it’s too difficult”, about an instrumental piano piece that I made. So he left us in charge of this album.
EG: ‘Us’ is referring to yourself and the staff, right? It seems like you enjoy working with lots of different people.
KHS: You feel more alive that way. Whatever entertainers do, they are left on their own for the results (judgment). Even when filming a drama with lots of staff, there are many cases where the criticism is just towards the actors. Because of the public eye, there’s no choice but to hide yourself. But that’s not necessary when doing other projects. I can say my opinion without discretion and argue if something doesn’t suit me. And then when the finished product comes out, we’re joyful together.
EG: There are rumours of misunderstanding that these other kinds of activities are for marketing a more elite image.
KHS: That’s definitely not true. I’m actually very ordinary. I’m the most lacking out of all of my friends. Nonetheless, I’m simply jumping into things to enjoy life without being too cautious of judgment [now]. People around me tell me often, ‘Why are you being brainwashed by society? Don’t live so modestly.’
EG: Writing literature, drawing pictures, and making music – what goal are you working towards while doing all of this?
KHS: I have no greed to earn a lot of money or attain high status. I dream of an ordinary life of barbequeing meat and drinking beer with my friends at a house with a yard. Paintings and music are [...] not my life goals. Although as I do it, my greed (ambition) increases, I try not to forget my original purpose at those times. I think I’ll become unhappy if I get too attached.

I had a dream last night.

He was there.
In the form of the very essence of a dream.
An ethereal being juxtaposing his every fallibility,
the perfect balance.

As always, alluring, although i never knew his name.
But somehow, i knew,
he
was there,
he
was mine.

Failing to etch the exact prose into memory, pieces are all that i am able to gather. Pieces of time, of him, of us. His being; so tangible, yet so distant. How i would like to run, race the distinct gap between dream and reality, just to erase my rationality, to make you mine.

It is my fairytale, one without wings.

You had your time, you had your space. The room, that chair, the company. The intentional laughs, the miserable jokes, the cynical thoughts. Whereas me, I had my space, the peek in the wall, my only access to you.

You were violent, but somehow, the dream provided your gentleness, thus a sense of calm.

My alarm rings, signaling 6am, i silence it, in awe of you.
Again i fall.

We stand, 50 feet above the level of serene lappings of water against the concrete tiling. She gazes, in your arms, indifferent, confident, at me, frail, doubtful, insistent.

But I knew, i had to.

Company increases by the dozens, as sunlight shimmers, dim, silent, dissolving into night.

I don’t return her gaze, it is not my intention, unintentionally. Instead, i feel your eyes on me, judging, scrutinizing, testing. Then comtemplating.
Had i caught your final stare, my decision remains, though in fact

Basically, this Alice in Wonderland, isn't Alice in Wonderland.

I however, enjoyed the graphics, at least it provided something to keep your mind occupied instead of being distracted by unintentional (but rather impossible to ignore) perusal of horrible performances, storytelling, and failed attempts at being weird.

If you insist to watch it, please do so in 3d.

Otherwise, read the books. They're way much more fulfilling on many accounts.

Or watch the disney animation. That's a fair version of Alice.

(Regardless of how Disney wraps harsh fairytales in pretty boxes with pink polka fluffy ribbons on them, i still love 'em.)

I was doing some research on Fairy Tales, specifically Cinderella, and specifically today, searched for the movie which follows closely to the Grimms Brothers version of it(Ashputtel) in which one of her stepsister's toes gets cut off, and another's heel gets chopped off. And Cinderella talks to a tree. Haha. I remember watching it as a child, and i want to watch it so badly, but it's so frustrating to find amidst all the various depictions of Cinderella,

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE TITLE OF THAT MOVIE AND WHERE I CAN GET MY HANDS ON IT?

Something i've always wanted to learn, but never managed to venture further than a morsel's length. Since class, i've wanted to much more.

HAHA i know multimedia students wouldn't say likewise, since what we're learning is only a drop in the ocean compared to what they have to endure. Regardless, i like the fact that it's uhm, interactive(?), so you see results immediately, as compared to illustration. You can't click, and they won't move. Response is only that of yours, and your viewers'. And illustration is so incredibly selfish. (Unless done for clients?)

Anywho, could i do it as a side thingy? (I know, leave em complicated things to the experts, but... :D!)

So, 500 days of summer got me in this mood, once again.
It's pretty.

Proses.
Knowing that there's no such thing as true love,
no such thing as fate,
and no such thing as the one for you.
Past few years have altered my perspective in life in certain ways.
Including in this matter.
It's the chances you take, the willingness to reciprocate, to an unknown future.
I could walk past you, perhaps we could have similar pasts which would make us be able to relate to each other at that moment of time. If i or you, do not take that chance, it would just slip away. And perhaps another moment would come up for us to meet once again, circumstances change us. We probably wouldn't click as we would have before.
Same goes for friendships.
Passing so many people everyday, you tend to see the same people once in a while. I could say hi, or just worry myself about the train being late. I've realised being in an unfamiliar territory, i started to make more friends, let my guard down easier, than when i am already familiar with it. I tend to not bother anymore.
I do remind myself to smile, once in a while.
But, i'm afraid too, of growing tired of that person. Things always begin with flowers sparkling all around, because mystery, indefinitely, is always appealing. But what if, you learn so much, that you just get sick, or realise, that no, i can't. I just can't. It's painful. And messy.
Relationships,
are hard work.
Since we pick up so much throughout the years. It get tougher believing, having faith, trusting.
Getting caught in the embrace of wanting to be cared for, wanting to be noticed. How suicidal for both parties. Compatibility, doesn't last. Create a mold, fill it up, then take it out again.
Marriage, being a bond, of a promised witness, forever.
Who am i to say anything, since i do not love.
Possibly this is simply a childish rendition of being cynical towards but not entirely denying it's existence.
Or negligence,
sprinkled with fatigue.
But it does make me really wonder, what is truly love,
and is it love,
if there's doubt present?
There's so much i do not know.
So much i want to know.
I would like to have the experience, minus the years.
It's all a little fuzzy, but i don't think it's necessary to iron it out now, right?
Not just yet.
Not yet.

Oh and yeah, the soundtrack's just as pretty.:)

I've watched it more times than i can actually remember. So convinced i was born in the wrong era.

(to me, i know, who cares~~~)...
Burn After Reading,
so i decided to do a rebut post. GAHA.

Burn after Reading rocks.
WATCH IT.

Synopsis: With their overly comedic follow-up BURN AFTER READING, the Coen Brothers return--about a third of the way--from the dark, dank recesses of the human psyche they traversed in their Oscar-winning NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. For those unfamiliar with the landscape of modern movie psychoanalysis, this puts the fraternal filmmakers square in the cruel, misanthropic, and farcical realm of their 1990s-era body of work, somewhere between the tragicomic crime thriller of FARGO and the disconnected noir-homage anti-storytelling of THE BIG LEBOWSKI, with 2007's NO COUNTRY retroactively adding new nihilism-tinged dimensions of smart skepticism to the proceedings. In a more linear trajectory, BURN AFTER READING also stands as the third entry, after BLOOD SIMPLE and FARGO, in what could be an unofficial Tragedy of Human Idiocy trilogy, wherein characters make the most outlandishly moronic moves to devastating consequences simply by adhering to true human behavior. Indeed, Carter Burwell's emotionally weighty score, which washes over biting scenes of explosive, anesthetizing belly laughs, is very reminiscent of his FARGO work. BURN is ostensibly structured and propelled by a spy-thriller plotline involving a classified CD lost by a disgraced CIA spook and found by two simple gym employees. But, in actuality, it's simply--amazingly--a collection of brilliant caricature studies interwoven by veracious, if Coenesque, social interactions, as epitomized by the pathos of the Frances McDormand character's precipitous quest for cosmetic surgery. The CIA superior who learns of the film's events (always second-hand and sometimes along with the viewer) doesn't know what to make of it, and why would he? This is the first Coen film in almost 20 years not shot by cinematographer Roger Deakins, yet the "new" guy, Emmanuel Lubezki (CHILDREN OF MEN), has created as visceral and emotionally fraught a high-definition cartoon as any since BARTON FINK.

If you don't get it, i'm sorry you just won't get it. It's either you like it, or you don't get it. GAHA.
Okay that's mean.:(

Maybe i just like these kind of movies which really portray what humans are really like...for real. How we're not like as smart as Prison break dude, as strong as Spiderman or who i dunno which are all fictional, i mean for real, there are people as stupid as Brat Pitt's character, as paranoid as George Clooney's and tempers, lusts, minor joys, etc, it's the little reactions of the characters which makes the movie so captivating. There need not be a like alien invasion or terminator to make a movie interesting, i mean, of course if you're looking for thrills and something out of the ordinary, well then by all means T:Salvation or whatever else they show on tv would appeal. Cos who wants to watch what they see in real life everyday?

But honestly to me it's real human behaviour that is really fascinating and you can be a psychiatrist and never stop learning. All you need is the simple pulls of the muscles in the face to betray hidden emotions or the core of thought which is toying around in your head.

It's not merely a pack of hearty laughs.

Plus, it's just the best ever way to end the movie with the similar scene it starts with and the planning of the scenes to run all over the world, to pause twice at the same room of the idiotic CIAians and end there as well is just so beyond genius.

This easily is one of the very sparsely few amazing movies i've watched.

Maybe i'm just sad(don't snigger, son.=.=).

I recommend this movie to Ean, Lionel, Lesley, ... if you guys read this, and whoever who is interested after reading this. I think you'll enjoy it.:D
